Like most other New Yorkers, we've realized that the ability to order
in is one of the perks of living in NYC. Not only is it super-convenient, but the quality and variety of the food you can order is mind-boggling. Keep in mind that one of us was raised in Ohio, where delivery meant a choice between Pizza Hut and Domino's. So, being surrounded by great Italian, Indian, Middle-Eastern, etc., is a bit of a happy dream.
Pizza Italia is one of our go-to seamlessweb clicks when we both don't feel up to cooking. Besides Adrienne's Pizza Bar, Pizza Italia is the top contender for best pizza in the Financial District. It's a completely different style than Adrienne's; Pizza Italia has a thicker crust and wider slices. Basically, Pizza Italia amply and perfectly satisfies the traditional New York-style pizza craving.
Through experimentation, we've found that the Grandma pizza is pretty great, but the Vodka pizza is even better. The best combination of ingredients, for both kinds, is pepperoni and onions (yes, it's crazy that you're paying $3 for onions, but you'll just have to suck it up because it tastes great). The vodka sauce is well-seasoned, but not outrageous, so it just adds that little something special in flavor. The crust is the perfect crisp and you can actually taste the freshness in the dough. I think of Adrienne's almost as gourmet pizza, but Pizza Italia is the pinnacle of an everyday slice.
