We're Plantains and Kimchi because he's Dominican and I'm Korean. Kimchi is probably the food most closely associated with Koreans, in all its stinky and yummy fermented glory. Rice and beans is probably more emblematic of Dominican food than plantains, but the name: Rice and Beans and Kimchi? Not so catchy and sounds like a weird food triangle. We love tasty food, whether highfalutin' or hole in the wall, and we take this love seriously. We think nothing of hour-long subway rides for our favorite ma po. We plan vacations around the yumminess of a city's eats. For us, great food = transcendence. Eating mediocre food makes us cranky. We currently live and work around the Financial District in NYC.
